The Anne Born Prize is an annual prize for a poet whose work has been published in Poetry News members‘ poems competitions over the preceding year. Poets are asked to submit some additional work for consideration by the judge, and the prize is a year of mentoring and support. It is awarded in honour of poet Anne Born’s contribution to literature in general, and poetry in particular.
Our congratulations to the winner of the 2016 Anne Born Prize, Tess Jolly, chosen by Rachael Boast. Rachael will offer Anne a course of mentoring during 2017.
Anne Born, who died in 2011, had interests and expertise that ranged over many subjects, including local history, geology and literature; she was a prize-winning translator from Scandinavian languages, and as well as being a widely published poet herself, she founded and established the poetry publishing house, Oversteps Books. We are very grateful to the Born family for allowing us to set up this prize.
