A Poetry Surgery is a one-to-one workshop with an established poet (we also have a Skype/FaceTime version), offering a relaxed but in-depth analysis of your poems. It’s a unique opportunity to identify strategies for further developing your writing, discuss problems you may be experiencing and look at strategies for taking your work forward. There will be plenty time to talk about all those things you need to know about writing, revising and submitting your work.
“I simply found it a wonderfully helpful hour.” – Jane Aldous, Edinburgh
Poetry Surgeries happen around the country, with different poets running Surgeries in different areas, as well as a Skype/FaceTime option. Find out here if there’s a Surgery near you, and explore upcoming dates in the calendar.
The poet Katharine Towers, who leads the Poetry Surgeries in Sheffield, has written about the experience as a surgeon. Read her account, including how she was able to help Danica Ognjenovic with her poem ‘Birdfall’, subsequently commended in the National Poetry Competition 2013.
